The Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA), in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau and with financial support from EngenderHealth, successfully conducted a five-day Blended Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP) Face-to-Face Training from July 20–24, 2026, at the EMwA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Center.

The training brought together 24 midwives representing health facilities across Addis Ababa to strengthen their knowledge, clinical competencies, and counseling skills in providing comprehensive postpartum family planning services. Through interactive lectures, competency-based learning, practical demonstrations, simulation exercises, and supervised clinical practice, participants enhanced their capacity to provide high-quality, voluntary, rights-based, and client-centered PPFP services.

The initiative supports Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health by strengthening the competence of frontline healthcare providers, expanding access to quality postpartum family planning services, promoting informed choice, and encouraging healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies.

EMwA expresses its sincere gratitude to the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau and EngenderHealth for their invaluable collaboration and support. The Association also appreciates the dedication of the facilitators and the enthusiastic participation of all 24 midwives, whose commitment will contribute to improving the quality of maternal and newborn healthcare services throughout Addis Ababa.

Together, we continue investing in skilled healthcare providers to ensure healthier mothers, healthier newborns, and stronger communities.
